June on the road Part 1 of 7

June is the beginning of the awful slow season for stand up. It’s hot, people are on vacation, no one gives a shit and gas is expensive.

I was asked to be part of the CB Radio Podcast Comedy Tour featuring Cameron Buccholtz and BradChad Porter. It was a driving tour which would take us from ATX to San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Fayetteville AR. I can almost taste the truck stop coffee and fried food just thinking about it.

My hopes and dreams on the side of the road…

The setlist was all ready for this trip and we opened up at the ND in Austin. Small turn out but the people were great from the beginning, I was able to bust out my set and bail because I had 2 more shows that same day.

The following day was San Antonio, the original venue bailed on the gig and we were moved to another location.

One thing I know about these small tours is that foot traffic and walk ups make or break the shows and while the venue was nice it was located by nothing which didn’t bode well for attendance.

Ramin Nazer came down and did a spot with us and I think by the time everything was said and done we performed in front of 20 people.

Definitely a far cry from the massive Stern numbers I’m used to but still a great opportunity to work on stuff and hone the skills needed for intimate environments.

Only in San Antonio can you be fat enough to be considered a car.

Houston was a bust out, no show basically 7 hours crammed in a car talking about nothing. Cameron fed his lotto addiction, I think he won gas money. I had BBQ that day at a truck stop.

After a day off we jumped in the car again and went off to Dallas. It was good to be home and see some old friends ; IE Paul Varghese, Jason James, Cris Lehman and Raj Sharma. Show was fun, good turn out. After the show we drove up to Oklahoma City. My Pandora was in rare form at one point ripping out Mercyful Fate, Styx, Metal Church, Keel and Y&T. I’m a metal nerd, suck it.

Oklahoma City was a weird show where these 5 people wouldnt move from the side of the stage so I made everyone in the front move over to them and did the show side ways. Fuck it, it was a punk club and fuck the rules. Did purchase some municipal waste gear and visited the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial. 186 Victims and a chair places in memory of each.

Definite odd energy in the air and I’m normally not one to feel such things but there was a change inside of the memorial.

Tulsa sucked the high hard one, the venue was next door to a place the Sex Pistols had played and we found our way down to the center of the world (universe) I forget. It’s some acoustic trick where you stand on a circle and something happens to your voice, I forgot, however I did finally work with Spencer Hicks @spencerlenox also on the bill was James Ngheim who probably has the best DMT joke I’ve ever heard.

See that door it’s Hanson’s studio so mmm bop my nizzies.

Monday in Fayetteville was dope and there was a poster for the White Stripes who played there on 9/11… Everytime those ass hats play it’s 9/11 for someone.

Middle of the night that photo was taken during a lightning strike.

Coming up next in part 2 I join the That Metal Show Comedy Tour and we tackle Chicago and Detroit.

A KO for TO as The Ronnie Mund Block Party Invades Canada

The travel day starts like most with a sleep deprived 5am shuttle ride to the airport. Two couples sit across from each other, the broads are yammering away about their friends wedding and their husbands stare at each other hoping the warm sensation of death will one day wash over them. The conversation morphs into the TSA and how they were unable to bring aboard an expensive bottle of wine on their last work trip. I want them dead. Sorry this is me at 5am on zero sleep with two planes to catch as I make my way from Austin TX to Toronto Ontario Canada for two sold out shows for The Ronnie Mund Block Party.

A three hour layover in Houston allows me a unique opportunity to see Canadian’s up close and now were packed like a Mardis Gras Paddy Wagon on our way up to the Great White North. In my 15 years of doing shows in Canada this is the first time I’m working legally and showing up with an actual work Visa and since the biggest hurdle for the weekend is getting into Canada I’m on my best behavior.

The line into customs moves quickly and within 10 minutes I’m going through the border agents where I’m directed to head through to another waiting area with armed guards that I can only describe as an airport version of a DMV. They take my passport, my work papers and tell me to sit down. The room is bleak and I get that uneasy feeling one of these doors leads to a room where they could make you disappear if they needed to. After a half hour our promoter shows up and pays the money to get me into Canada and relieved I head to baggage claim where my exit to freedom is blocked by a 700 person line through two more guards to actually leave the airport.

Add to the aggravation of the line I gotta stare at this fat guys ass crack eat his pants and the middle eastern guy who felt his spit behind me actually involved constantly touching me and breathing down my neck. 30 more minutes I’m free and being driven to the venue in Mississauga which is large (740k pop) suburb of Toronto.

The venue is Blue Suede Sues in Mississauga and it’s primarily a dance club and not at all laid out for comedy. It was comedy in the round, no real focal point and the lay out and decor was wild. Imagine Graceland if it was decorated by Spencer’s Gifts meets a fat goth girls bedroom and enough black and white tile you’d think we were performing at the Peach Pit on Beverly Hills 90210. Put it this way, if they would’ve approached Quentin Tarantino to use it for Pulp Fiction he would’ve said “Perfect but let’s dial it back by 95%”.

The venue owner was a great guy and assured me the place was perfect and Rob Bass had performed there. I told him doing comedy to 350 crazed Stern fans who professionally heckle was not the same as a rehashed 90s hip hop concert for 40 year old white people.
After a mic check and some tweaks we were ready to go and they popped the doors and the fans poured in. Ronnie, Shuli, Maddog Mattern and the man of the hour JD Harmeyer finally made their way in having also battled security, customs, flight delays, Friday evening Toronto traffic and jet lag.

The energy was hot and the fans were ready for a wild ride.

JD came out to thunderous applause followed by an enormous “FUCK SCOTT!” chant that erupted and bellowed through out the venue. The fans had the tiny stage surrounded and were thoroughly entertained by the comedy of myself, Maddog and Shuli. Ronnie had no shortage of Hot Chicks and at one point had four women up on the stripper pole while JD held court from the other stage.

Canada has some die hard Stern Fans and we brought out some local celebrities including a gentleman known as “The Cash Man” who presented Ronnie with a Sterling silver Tiffany Rattle to give to Scott The Engineer for being a baby and quitting the Block Party.

It’s a $500 rattle!!! FUCK even when he’s not here and not doing anything that bald fuck made more money.

So despite my concerns for the venue, the show went off without a hitch and based on the reviews and photos from twitter the fans were more than pleased with the show.

Ronnie, Shuli and JD with the owner of the venue who is a big fan and a great dude!

Not only were there a lot of hot chicks one fan in particular came up onstage and revealed her natural rack selection to the delight of the fans and while I do have the video, this blog prevents the posting of nudity but look to upcoming content from Howard TV where not only will you see this top notch rack but better footage of Dabadass JD Harmeyer delivering a solid lip lock to a standing ovation!

And how to round out a night of partying with the Ronnie Mund Block Party?

Well if you’re touring with Maddog Mattern and he can’t sleep unless he’s hopped up on St. John’s Wort and enough melatonin to put someone to sleep faster than a Gary story, you hit up the local Walmart, which is just like American Walmarts except everyone is in shape and has health care.

Saturday brought a full schedule to the four regulars that including interviews with askmen.com , The Naked News, an Eat and Greet, a photo shoot and a private fan dinner and with a full schedule like that, the only way to travel is by party bus.

The Eat and Greet was at Jack’s Backyard and the fans were fed a wide variety of BBQ and from Noon to 3pm the booze was flowing and people were getting to meet the Block Party Tour members and even Hanzi the gentleman known for his conspiracy filled phone call rants to Howard was in attendance.

This guy not only showed up rocking a Maiden Jersey, he also won a $200 drawing and when he told me he wasn’t able to get tickets for that nights Block Party because it was Sold Out, I scored some free passes for he and his wife. Up The Irons! Metal Heads should always take care of Metal Heads.

Inside of the bar was one of those prove your manhood punching bag games and with the fans piled in and Howard TV watching we had a box off. I had cheated by practicing twice and rocking a 760 out of possible 999 so I felt like I had the contest won.

One by one we all took our swings as the crowd cheered.

JD went, then Maddog, then Ronnie, myself and finally the headliner Shuli. With my lackluster bag missing 452 as the score to beat, Shuli stepped up.

Someone yelled out “Pretend it’s Scott’s face!” and that’s all Shuli needed and he landed a serious haymaker and scored a 666. The place went berserk and as Maiden Fans Shuli and I are were even more stoked.

Final Tally

JD 350
Maddog 425
Ronnie 448
John 452
Shuli 666

One fan after the contest stepped up and banged out a 905 , his fist was like a truck and I thought I was watching early clips of a you g Clubber Lang training montage from Rocky III.

After the eat and greet we headed over to the venue and started our photo shoot for content for the upcoming Block Party Site, Ronnie Mund Jamaican Get A Way site and photographer David Leyes was there to capture our good looks and during our down time we were able to rest and catch up with twitter.

After the photo shoot the gentlemen and huge Stern Fans Stewart and Derrick who had provided our party bus took us and about 20 other folks to an amazing steak house. They were awesome dudes and it was a great start to a wild night.

The Show that night was stellar, Ronnie had Rachelle Wild from the Naked News up with on stage, Shuli got a woman in her 50s ? to also dance, Maddog and I killed and the fans were loud and out of control. The highlight to me was Hanzi and Ronnie arm wrestling and by all accounts and in this reporters humble opinion Hanzi won. However , Hanzi outweighs Ronbo by atleast 100 lbs, he’s 30 years younger and bit less crazy so it wasn’t really fair to begin with.

Let’s take a break in the blog action and have Maddog Mattern himself break down the Canada trip.

Things that make Canada awesome!!!!
1) everyone there is super friendly but at the same time rugged. Like they would kick your ass but then ask if there is anything around the house they can help you with.

2) it’s incredibly clean. No garbage, homeless or junkies soiling the streets. It’s so clean I’m convinced that std’s in Canada make one healthier. Catch clap in Toronto and it makes your eyesight better. It’s like eating carrots but more fun.

3) if you don’t drink all the time you are a walking vag. And the first people to call ya that are women. Canadians drink all the time and handle there booze like a professional. Know one got out of hand yet everyone was drinking since the last time the Leafs made the finals. At the meet and great a woman who was a school teacher called me a pussy for drinking coffee at noon. She then pounded three shots and four beers like she was Quinn in “Jaws. She would of stayed and drank more but she had to prepare a lesson for Monday on plate tectonics. Forget hockey drinking is the national past time!!!

4) hottest black girls ever!!! In the states we are convinced there are not many black folks in Canada. Well this is a great secret. I looked into the crowd Saturday and saw a bunch of dark skinned angels that would make a neo/nazi consider a career change. And all these sirens could drink anyone under the table!!! To quote Yakoff Smirnoff (That’s right you read that correctly. A Yakoff Smirnoff reference. What you gonna do about it?) WHAT A COUNTRY!!!!!!

We love Maddog and he has been a huge addition to the tour. Follow him on twitter @maddogmattern

After the show we took pics with the fans, signed stuff and went out for some late night strip club antics.

For Strip Club Audio and an interview with Hanzi check out the new episode of John Tole’s America Podcast

We finished the night with some friends and fans at Denny’s where Shuli devoured a Grandslamwich.

A quick toast and a huge Thank you to Jerry our Canadian promoter, everyone at Blue Suede Sue’s, Stewart and Derrick for the food, bus and strip club VIP experience, to Rachelle Wild from the Naked News, Peter from Askmen, Hanzi, Jacks Backyard, Jeff Bellamy from Prime Web Design, David Leyes, Dan from Cleanbox Entertainment and all the incredible Howard Stern Fans who made it a memorable weekend.

Golden State Block Party Tour to Sacramento and San Francisco

Here we go again and welcome back to another edition of The Ronnie Mund Block Party Tour Blog brought to you courtesy of John Tole’s America starring Carey Denise. Thank you for all the kind comments and I’m trying to get back to everyones questions as fast as I can. You can either hit me up on twitter @johntole or email me at johnrtole@gmail.com .

It was another one of those surreal career weeks where I go from a club to an open mic to a festival and a block party all in the span of 5 days. I was stoked to be invited to the first ever Moontower Comedy Festival here in Austin TX and allowed me to opportunity to perform with Joe Mande, Jay Oakerson, Lucas Molandes and more as as we did showcases Wednesday and Thursday nights.

The Wednesday crowd I opened for was for The Dan Band and if you’re like me you’re like “who?” but then you realize it’s the dirty cover band from Starsky and Hutch, Old School and The Hangover and you go from who is this to let me bust my camera out.

I had the chance to grab the mic and share some airtime with Covino and Rich who were cool as Hell, huge Howard fans and great on air.

After Thursdays show I pulled an all nighter and by 7am CST I was winging my way to the City by the bay. The plan was I arrive at 10am I get picked up, we come back at 1pm and pick up everyone from the tour and Howard TV.

With the black cloud diner in full effect and unluckier than a Chinese younger sister the planes coming from the East were delayed and now no one is landing until 5pm which puts us in the middle of Bay Area Traffic with 90 miles and probably 3 hours to get to Sactown.

I’m sitting at a cafe when the call comes in and I exit the gate only to be fully engulfed in Ronnie’s Block Party Glory as the Block Party Bus pulls up.

It’s everything you think it is, half ex prison bus from “The Longest Yard (Reynolds not Sandler) and half rolling strip club.

It’s got a lounge area, tv’s, booze, couches, bunks and of course a stripper pole.

Side note don’t have the photo of the stripper pole be the first picture you send your wife or there will be a minor disturbance in the marital force.

Here is the bus in it’s glory.

At 5pm we picked up the gang and we were ready to go and make the trip up to Sac, Ronnie and Shuli were stoked about the bus, Scott wasn’t sold on it and everyone settled in for the long ride up north.

After a booze fueled ride up I-80 we pulled up to Shenanigans in Sacramento and the fans were ready to go!

Everyone piled inside to get the show ready for the TWO! Sold Out Sacramento Events!

The Line up
Scott
Ronnie
Eric The Actor
Yucko The Clown
Maddog Mattern
John Tole
Shuli Egar.

The police had some concerns with the bus but all was well in Block Party Land.

The shows went off like clock work and the fans were excited to be part of the party. Yucko killed, Maddog destroyed and Shuli and I rounded out the night and sent the fans home happy to be part of a one of a kind comedy experience.

My Block Party experience was over and I made way back to Austin for my final Moontower Show which was The Festival’s Dirty that I was hosting which included Pat Dixon, Rachel Feinstein, Jay Oakerson, Ari Shaffir and with a hot room going it brought out the Roastmaster himself, Jeffrey Ross to close out the night.

This is the first time in the history of John Tole’s America that I’ve had the opportunity to host a new voice and with my early departure from the tour I’m handing the reigns over to Maddog Mattern to bring you all home.

Maddog is a beast of a comic, a mans man and the dude can write his ass off.

ENJOY !

Day 2 San Francisco: by Maddog Mattern.

Saturday was a dream come true. A legendary town. San Francisco. A legendary venue. The Great American Music Hall. And next to us a legendary strip club. The O’Farrell theatre (which was once managed by my hero Hunter S Thompson). Magic was in the air.

We get to our hotel at 2 pm. It is the hotel that Bradley Nowell of Sublime died in. The Phoenix. It’s black Cloud is perfect for the tour. Since we also carry a black cloud (Scott). Maybe they’d cancel each other out.

Our pool was full of lesbians with tattoo’s, Buddy Holly glasses and a lot of man hate. As we tried to figure out what we would do in the waning hours before show time. These girls stated at us like we were lesbian starter kits. And they had good reason. We were a bunch of Loud mouth, abrasive, non sensitive mooks of all ages openly talking about how we were gonna wack it to these hellions in our hotel rooms. We are scum!!!
The scum went to fisherman’s warf. It went like one would expect. Scott wanted to see the town. Ronnie wanted to focus on seeing some local talent. Scott and the boys enjoyed watching the saloons on pier 39. Ronnie thought they were pussies. He has a point all they do is lay around. They are basically sea hippies. Makes sense they are in SF.

We leave the Warf and go to the venue. It is utterly beautiful. Walking in there gave me chills. It looks like an Opera House with a huge stage and decadent looking balcony. This was no fooling around. This was big time babies. It was at that point that I realized that regardless of how this gig goes I had made it. We were about to be on the same Stage Robert Plant, Elvis Costello and Tom Waits played. This was a thrill. But the true thrill was to come later.

As a performer killing is always great. But killing to 850 people in a rocking theatre is life altering. We are all better people after this show. The crowd had a wild hysteric energy. And the performers did too.

Eli Braden opened by playing awesome song parodies that worked the crowd into frenzy!!! Everyone was singing along to lyrics about Robin’s jugs. When he left the crowd was ready to rock. Scott then came out and after a huge pop from the crowd he lost them by attempting jokes.

Out comes Ronnie Mund for the save. Crowd explodes like a volcano of love. He truly is a rock star. Drenched in Mambo and looking like a stylish mechanic who gets pussy. Ronnie then brings out Eric the Midget/actor. He talks for a minute and then out comes the unknown on the show….. Me. I hit the crowd in jaw. With the help of a black guy in the crowd who kept calling himself ….. The black guy. We played off each other like Martin and Lewis. After my set comes Yucko. Who brought the creepy hysterics coming. Shuli came out and destroyed. This was his night. The crowd ate everything he gave him. And then asked for more. At the end of the set Shuli got some broad to blast her mammaries in the face of Eric. Which was a tender moment. And by tender I mean a moment for Eric and the rest of the depraved in the building (including me) to get the blood going in the pickle. It was a great first show. Everyone was flying high after the show. But there was one more to do. We had to reach down for one more. And that’s what we did!!!!!!

In between shows we all are loose as a goose. Maybe to loose. Libations are flowing and eventually tempers. An argument erupts backstage between Scott and Ronnie/Shuli. Over what? Honestly who knows? And who cares? It led to utterly wonderful chaos. After Eli’s wonderful warmup Scott grabs the mic and starts by saying that Shuli and Ronnie are the two biggest dicks in the world. He then slams the mic then exits. The crowd erupts in a sound of shock. Ronnie then takes the stage minus intro music. Crowd is nuttier than Chinese chicken salad. Ronnie calls Scott back to the stage. Scott yells at Ronnie while moving towards him. Ronnie picks up mic stand and tells Scott “if you make one more step I’ll hit ya in your bald fucking Head!!!” as the late great Gorilla Monsoon might say we were about to get Wrestlemania before Wrestlemania. As this occurs I get brought up. They skipped Eric and went to me. I opened by saying what a thrill it was to try and do standup after The comedy equivilant of Shawn Michaels throwing Marty Jannety through Brutus Beefcake’s window. It goes good. Half the balcony looks like the Mexicans who were gonna kill Erhan Hawke in “Training Day” I close strong and hold my arms in the air in triumph. After that I finally start drinking. My poison? Guinness. Why? Because I’m a gentleman.

Eric comes out to a STANDING ovation
like the Pope does in the Vatican. Yucko cleans the house like a methed up House wife. Shuli than brings it all home.

The show kept climbing. Each act found a crowd that was getting stronger. That doesn’t happen much for a late show. Usually the opposite. This is a testament to the fans and frankly out crew. This is a great show. We took diversity and tempers and still delivered. Thus might be a bit of a comedy train wreck. But it’s a gottdamn professional train wreck. Stern personalities with pro comics and pro support staff in Cleanbox Entertainnent. We came together and made it happen!! Know one got hurt. And at the end everyone was happier than a pig in shit because the adversity led to a totally unique once in a lifetime show. It’s an honer to be on this tour. It’s chaos but like Heath Ledger’s Joker said “I am an agent of chaos.” This is the best show on earth. Come get a piece.

Thank you for checking out the blog!

Toronto is later this month and then the East Coast in June!

Please continue to support this blog and my podcast we have new shows coming up every Tuesday and Friday and it’s a lot of fun.

Thank you to everyone at Cleanbox, Howard TV, Ronnie Mund, Shuli Egar, Yucko, and Maddog for making these events once in a lifetime experiences!

See you on the road!

The Block Party Takes Over Chicago and Arizona

The Ronnie Mund Block Party is in full force and this weekend’s shows have proven this tour is reaching epic status. With Scott The Engineer having to attend “a family event”, it meant that the tour would be down one person until Dabadass JD Harmeyer agreed to co-host with the man, the myth, the legend and my hero Ronnie “The Limo Driver” Mund.

I flew into Chicago ahead of the tour to do some comedy networking and headline The Liar’s Club as we sent off Family Tattoo’s own Bill Smiles in a drunken splendid fashion as he relocates to Texas. Check out Bill and Family Tattoo there on Belmont in Chicago if you want top notch tattooing.

The view of Chicago from Family Tattoo.

103 floors up on the Sears Tower, from here on a clear day you can see how fat everyone is in Wisconsin.

This was my Ferris Beuller’s Day off moment.

Meanwhile while I was sight seeing and wandering around Chicago which was highlighted by a female traffic cop yelling at me for jay walking and referring to me as a “Fat Faggot”, the boys were flying out of New York to Chicago.

JD Harmeyer, Shuli Egar, Maddog Mattern and Ronnie The Limo Driver were keeping the fans updated via twitter of their progress.

Stern Fans are everywhere and I encountered this as I met the boys and the crew from Howard TV at OHare Airport.

Ronnie was in rare form as always, busting balls, cracking jokes and being hysterical.

This woman cut in line in front of us to get in the airport shuttle, Maddog Mattern commented she looked like Miss Cleo.

During the ride Ronnie was asking show logistical questions like , ” can we burn a shirt on stage?”

We had cabs lined up to take us to the venue when the news broke that a car had wrecked on the freeway and had crashed into the blue line and traffic was snarled.

Luckily super fan Bob Shankman was on hand and available to drive us to the show, the only downside…Bob drives a rape van, a windowless, seatless Rape Van.

Bob let’s Ronnie into the Van.

JD sits uncomfortably prompting Shuli to tweet that he has JD hostage, the best response coming from a fan who said, “we don’t negotiate with terrorists.”

Maddog is visually “relieved” to be out of the van once we reached The Cubby Bear.

The view from our green room at the Cubby Bear where it was said, the Mayor himself had demanded Scott Salem stay home because the town couldnt have Scott and the Cubs in the same city at the same time.

The meet and greet was packed and the crowd filled the venue beyond capacity.

The fans had home made shirts, hand made signs and they were by far the most gracious and rabid fans we’ve had so far.

JD led off the Block Party and brought on Ronnie.

Maddog, Shuli and I brought the comedy destruction and two hours later we were partying late into the night, since we had to be at the airport at 3:15am to check in for our 5:05 am flight to Arizona.

Waiting in line at security.

Ronnie and Maddog at 5am, punchy and ready to sleep during the flight.

Shuli takes a much needed nap.

We landed in Arizona as the sun came up and were immediately shuttled to our hotel to sleep and after some much needed rest we hit the pool area.

Somehow managed to get the last suite in our hotel which was a handicapped accessible so Ronnie had a special shower and a short tiny closet … Which well…

The crowd at the Red Revolver in Scottsdale was electric and ready to party. Tonights line up was beefed up with the addition of Yucko The Clown. The Show was amazing, the fans loved it and while they didn’t bring any signs, Arizona brought tons of hot chicks and some awesome home made shirts.

Maddog killed, Yucko Killed, Shuli Killed and I brought my filth laden dog and pony show to the masses, the fans loved it and it was awesome to see so many stoked happy Stern fans in one place.

This tour has been incredible, the fans get up close access to their favorite Stern cast members, they get to interact, they get to be a part of the greatest show in the history of Radio.

It’s like a Family Reunion you actually want to go to.

Big things are in the works and we just announced The Ronnie Mund Jamaican Getaway for March 2013!!!

It’s a 3 night 4 day fan experience where you get to party with The Block Party in Montego Bay Jamaica, attend shows, comedy workshops, and have a once in a lifetime Stern Fan Experience.

It’s a limited event so booking in advance is mandatory!!

Coming soon in April the Block Party invades Sacramento and San Francisco!! Joining the tour in SF is song parody guru and comedian Eli Braden and he will be taking my place for that weekend because I was invited to be a part of the MoonTower Comedy Festival with Steven Wright, Aziz Ansiri, Seth Meyers and more!!!!

With the weekend over we all flew back home, according to JD, Ronnie was holding court on the plane and grabbed these pics, while I let the whisky do the talking to finish this blog.

I’ve been on the road since 2009 with The Killers of Comedy, The Miserable Men Comedy Tour, The Sal and Richard Show and now The Ronnie Mund Block Party.

The things I’ve witnessed, the fans, the energy, the incredible support involved as we all (fans and the guys from the show) come together to bring comedy as Superfans of The Howard Stern Show.

Without Howard, none of this is possible.

As a superfan I know how stoked our friend Tom was to drive us home from the Chicago Show and grab some quick fast food while Ronnie. Shuli, JD and myself cracked jokes and had a blast.

It’s these moments that makes the Block Party amazing!!

Come see it!!
Coming up!
Sacramento, San Francisco, Toronto, Long Island, Manhattan, Providence, LA, San Diego and more!!! PLUS JAMAICA!!!

HEY NOW!!!!!

Ronnie’s (JD Harmeyer) Block Party in CT

I boarded my flight in San Francisco after a couple great shows and winged my way east to hit up NYC and CT for The Ronnie Mund Block Party Tour. Nothing is funnier to me than the stewardess announcing with a straight face, “Welcome to Detroit”. After a quick layover I was crammed into a window seat with a huge in seat B who was the size of High Pitch Eric and the personality of Double A.

Top two things witnessed on my flight were these dudes. The first one is Captain America and the second is an Asian version of Moe from the 3 Stooges.

After landing I went to Astoria where I did the Slam Pig Podcast hosted by the hilarious Josh Accardo and then we rolled down to the Village Lantern to rock their 10pm show, you might know the Lantern from the episode of Louie where he and Doug Stanhope find an awful open mic to do.

After that I pulled an all nighter because I had to be at Sirius at 7am for Jay Thomas. In the pouring rain I got there way too early at 5:30 and was greeted by Scott The Engineer. We went upstairs and talked over coffee in the breakroom before he went back to his studio and I went and chilled inside of the Howard 100 newsroom and got to meet the electric Jon Lieberman. Before I went down to Studio 1 to sit in on the Jay Thomas Show I snapped this pic of the Howard 100 newsroom.

I love sitting in with Jay Thomas, I love his show and the ensemble cast is hysterical. Of course my personal favorite is Ira the Weatherman who is always good for an “asleep at the mic” pic.

After the show we went downstairs to load up the cars to head off to Hartford CT. We had Howard TV along with us so our car had Bruno from Cleanbox driving, JD Harmeyer riding shot gun, Shuli, new block party regular Maddog Mattern and me crammed into the backseat and Rob from Howard TV shooting from the back of the truck. 6 guys, 2 cameras and Scott The Engineer providing the awful weather made the trip up to Hartford lag like a boob pic downloading in 95.

We got to the hotel and were greeted by the owner who was such a huge Stern Fan this is what is on the cereal dispenser to greet guests or breakfast.

We got into our rooms and settled in and then headed down to JD’s suite for a Poker game where the stakes were high but not as high as half of us and Brian Phelan was holding court and sharing the chilled Vodka straight up. The Poker game was fast and loose and after an hour, Shuli, Maddog, Brian Phelan and me had all dropped our dough to the big winner JD.

It was show time and we went down to The Brew Ha Ha Comedy Club inside of City Steam Brewery in Hartford. The crowds were electric. I’ve done Block Parties before as well as Killers of Comedy Gigs and I’ve never seen crowds like this. Scott busted out his dance opener, JD killed hard reading LL Cool J’s Whitney Houston prayer and asked the crowd “How is Whitney dead and Scott Salem still alive?” That line brought the House Down. JD brought up CT regular Claudia Stavola who opened up the room which gave way to tour newcomer Maddog Mattern.

Maddog is a destroyer I’ve seen him kill on The Miserable Men Comedy Tour Shows and this was no different and 15 minutes later he received his first of two standing ovations. I followed Maddog bringing the heat and then Shuli came out, the audience was ready and Shuli killed. Fans were delighted by a joke by Sha Sha Seanie Aka High Register Sean who came down from Boston.

Both shows were extremely high energy, fun packed, great fans, and the meet and greets were a blast.

We woke Saturday morning and headed on down to Stamford CT for our show at Fiddler’s Pub. Our Hotel was palatial and just a warning about how awesome this show was about to be.

At 6 pm we were told our Limo was out front and not only was it a dope ass limo it was THE “PETCOCK” Limo where Ronnie spent two days on air getting yelled at because Howard couldn’t believe they couldn’t adjust the temp on the fly. So not only is it Howard’s Old Limo!!! It’s the Petcock limo. As a Stern fan my surreal life continues as we (Bruno, Shuli, Maddog, Doug Goodstein and me) headed over to the show.

Our limo driver Dean is a huge Stern Fan and a great guy!

Go check out Maddog’s live tweeting at 4am on Sunday 2/27 for proof.

The show was again sold out, the fans were excited and the meet and greet was a lot of fun. Bruno had lost his voice so the bar owner made the announcements. JD did well again and brought up Maddog who killed again.

The sound system was crazy and the feedback was horrendous. Every two seconds high pitch squeals that sounded like dog’s rape whistle screamed through the bar. Maddog and myself were way too loud and animated and instead of dealing with feedback we just dropped the mic and ripped the crowd at the top of our lungs projecting across the bar packed with 250 rabid Stern Fans. Shuli closed out the show by bringing up Wack Pack Legend High Pitch Eric and the folks were delighted to a wild show.

After the show the limo driver took Bruno, Maddog and me out to eat and then off to the Mecca of sports entertainment the WWE building!

Wooooooooooooooooooooo

The weekend was capped off by Maddog and I doing spots Sunday night at Stand Up NY and then back to Hoboken.

Monday morning I woke up and walked to the train. The shows were behind me, we had delivered, the fans were happy. JD is awesome, Scott continues to be Scott. The sun was shining and an old man sang with a guitar on Washington street.

He belted out “Cmon Hoboken lemme hear ya” and the dropped the Chorus to Neil Diamond’s “Sweet Caroline”. Even though Ronnie was with Howard for AGT I still got my fix in that moment.

We are heading to Chicago on March 30 at The Cubbybear in Wrigleyville and then off to Tempe AZ at The Horse and Hound on March 31. Ronnie will be back with us and God willing JD as well!

The Ronnie Mund Block Party Seattle and Portland

The widely discussed and anticipated Ronnie Mund Block Party invaded the Northwest with two standing room only shows in Seattle WA and Portland OR. The fans in attendance were given full access to the festivities, boobs, comedy and wack pack legend Gary The Retard!

The weekend started with the tour members flying to Seattle from New York, Austin and Los Angeles.

Shuli live tweeted the trip @shalomshuli which found Shuli, Ronnie and Scott leaving Sirius in a monsoon.

With Scott behind the wheel the black cloud was definitely along for the trip. The black cloud found it’s way into the terminal where Scott was unable to buy water because the register up and died prior to the transaction.

I flew from Austin to Seattle and like all road trips it was marred with stupidity. Personally I’m not a fan of airplane humor but Brian Regan could do an hour on this photo of failure in action.

Seattle is a great city, great fans and we got an unexpected two days of great weather instead of the drab rainy grey cold that’s so bad. Cobain took the easy way out.

Some fans met us in the hotel and the Mambo King was signing autographs and a fan had this great idea. In the near future, expect to see eBay stores based out of third world countries selling bootleg “Stop The Clock” or Flava Flav stealing Ronnie’s catch phrase.

Shuli, Yucko and Ronnie wait outside the hotel before we headed over to The El Corazon for the meet and greet. Scott is absent because someone or everyone “forgot” to tell him what time we were meeting.

Ronnie Mund and the man behind the scenes Seqouia from Cleanbox Entertainment prepare for a night of wild antics. This photo is what I imagine a 30 year anniversary would look like if the people involved in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters didn’t die of loneliness way before.

The meet and greet was great and the fans were able to hang out and get pictures with the tour members. Some were nice enough to share their photos for the tour blog. If you have photos or video you would like included, send them to me on twitter @johntole

After the meet and greet, the crowd was hyped up and ready to rock. Fans were thrilled with Scott The Engineer’s high energy dance intro which gave way to Ronnie welcoming everyone and getting the show started. The highlight of Scott’s dance was when he tried to enter the stage from the front but it was too high and you could see the look on his face when he realized it wasn’t going to happen and he gracefully played it off and entered from the side averting near disaster.

Jason Stewart, who you would know from The Killers of Comedy on the Road and The Promoter, started the comedy off and that gave way to Ronnie’s Hot Chick Contest. Then, I was brought up to do my act. The crowd was hot and loved the dirty offensive material. 20 minutes later I was done and out back sweaty and hurling Jameson and pizza because I’m a disgusting human.

Yucko had just flown in from LA and had to get in make up and costume in the cab ride over (which must have been a mind fuck for the cab driver). It’s bad enough you gotta drive a cab around, get stiffed and possibly get murdered, now there’s an angry clown yelling obscenities and honking a horn.

Yucko destroyed the room and then it was the man of the hour, Shuli Egar who finished out the Seattle Block Party stop with his hysterical act. He was only interrupted once by a gentleman who picked a room full of security and 250 people to yell “white power”. That “gentleman” finished the show laying on the side walk and explaining to the cops how he was “misunderstood”.

Aside from that, the WA, ID, MT and Canadian Stern fans were incredible and it felt like being with family.

After the show, Ronnie, Sequoia, our camera crew, fans and I went over to Rebar for some late night partying. Ronnie was the king of the dance floor and held court. Side note Rebar is a gay bar and Ronnie was by far the best dancer.

With Seattle successfully behind us, it was time for the Block Party to head on down to Portland. I love surreal moments in my life where I get to drive Ronnie The Limo Driver around.

Justin from Cool Hand Pictures was with us to document the weekend.

Scott was less than enthused about the ride. Shuli the pro prankster was live tweeting the ride and snapping every Scott and Ronnie photo possible when he wasn’t interrupting Ronnie’s naps with the sound effect app he had installed on his phone.

The highlight of the ride was when we pulled the ol “everyone scream when I jam on the brakes game”. See photo for a very terrified Ronnie.

Video is coming soon of the whole weekend so look out for it, it’s hysterical.

After 150 miles and a trip to Denny’s where Ronnie actually looked at the 55+ menu we arrived in Portland and got ready for our show at The Hawthorne Theater.

The crowd in Portland was huge and loud and took every opportunity to try to derail the block party.

Yucko went up first and was followed by Ronnie’s Hot Chick Dance Contest.

After the dance contest Shuli, Gary The Retard and I held down the comedy portion of the show and sent the fans home happy.

We did have to have to some fans removed from the Portland show because they felt it was cool to fuck up the show by yelling and ruin the good fans time. Much respect to the awesome Stern Fans who supported and suck a big dick to the small group of ego maniacs who used the show as an opportunity to yell mindless drivel, you should be ashamed of yourself not just for yelling and being assholes but for doing it in such a boring uncreative way.

We are going to be in Hartford CT at City Steam Brewery on Friday Feb 24th and Stamford CT at
Fiddlers Pub on Saturday Feb 25th and we are excited to have JD Harmeyer with us!
